Bonjour et bienvenue sur mon site! If you are reading this I assume you have some interest in my life and my updates, so I won’t go into superfluous details about me. However here are the basics: I am a junior at Vanderbilt University studying Human & Organizational Development and Medicine, Health, & Society (try explaining those majors to someone…going to avoid that right now). I have taken French since I was a wee little 6th grader, and fell in love with the language as soon as I could say more than ‘Bonjour’ and ‘Je m’appelle.’ It has always felt like a secret code to me. I continued taking French courses in high school, where my friends would make fun of me for wanting to speak the language with fellow French students outside of class. They thought I was the biggest nerd, but here I am! I picked up the language again when I transferred to Vandy.
I will be studying abroad this semester in southern France. To read more about the location, click on the other page above titled ‘Aix-en-Provence.’ I have never been out of the U.S. (except to Canada, not sure that counts) and am eager to explore Europe. I have plans to go to Switzerland, Scotland, England, Ireland, Italy, and Spain, in addition to France of course. My goal is to post at least twice a week; feel free to comment as you please.
The name for the blog came from none other than my marketing-minded sister, Sam–it is a combination of one of my favorite classic French songs, « La Vie en rose » by Édith Piaf, and the fields of lavender that the Provence region of France is known for.« La Vie en Rose » has become a popular saying in French and refers to seeing the positivity in life through “rose-colored glasses.” However, of course in Aix-en-Provence I will be seeing life through lavender-colored glasses!
Au revoir, and happy reading! 🙂
